A gentlemanly steakhouse, The Monarch channels a posher feel than sibling eateries The Wild Fig and Steakhouse No. 316. Divided between a pewter-trimmed bar and a main dining room, the spaces mix elements of polished wood paneling and dim decor with antiqued brass, bronze, polished marble, glass and mirror forged from a silvered jet engine. Heavy tartan drapery and dim lighting adds a romantic flair to banquettes covered in leathers and velvets next to crisp white tablecloths.<br />

The Food

With separate bar and dining room menus, a visit prior offers dishes like braised rabbit poutine, steak and chips or classic Prime Monarch Burger. The main dining room offers full raw bar with caviar service as well as more traditional appetizers like soft shell crab, diver scallops and prime filet tartare. Main course isn't just about meat, with its selection of roasted chicken or lobster carbonara. Or perhaps you stick just with the meat with cuts like Kansas City Strip, rib eye or prime fillet with invariable sides like house cut chips, cheddar potato and scallion gnocchi.

Last Word
